InfraNorth researcher Ria-Maria Adams will present at the seminar “Spirit of Inari 2024: The Future of Regenerative Tourism” at the Sajos Sámi Cultural Center in Inari, Finland, on Thursday, October 31, at 13:10 EET.

Her presentation, titled “For Whom Do the Sleigh Bells Toll? Social Media’s Role in Shaping Expectations of Arctic Tourism Destinations” will examine the ways in which tourism practices are shaped and co-created by local entrepreneurs and tourists alike, who arrive in the Arctic with specific expectations and imaginaries. It will discuss how tourism significantly impacts all parties involved, including local communities, hosts, and guests who arrive in growing numbers at Arctic destinations.

The seminar will bring together stakeholders from the tourism industry and related fields to discuss how to promote socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable and regenerative tourism in Finnish Lapland, and how tourism could support the local community’s wellbeing.
