Call for Papers on “Infrastructures: Questions, Debates, and Directions” for VANDA 2027
We invite paper proposals for our panel “Infrastructures: Questions, Debates, and Directions” at the Vienna Anthropology Days (VANDA) 2027, hosted by the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Vienna, 16-19 February 2027.
The panel explores infrastructure as both an object of anthropological inquiry and an analytical lens. It welcomes empirical, conceptual, and methodological contributions that engage with emerging questions, debates, and directions in infrastructure research.
Contributions may examine infrastructures across diverse social, political, and geographic settings, including transport, digital, water, energy, and other infrastructures, as well as their interconnections. The panel is particularly interested in contributions that bring together detailed empirical research and theoretical reflection and connect infrastructure research with broader anthropological questions concerning power, social relations, difference, and belonging. While grounded in anthropology, the panel is also open to ethnographically informed contributions from other disciplines.
