On April 24, Olga Povoroznyuk and Peter Schweitzer presented online the preliminary results of their InfraNorth fieldwork in Nome, Alaska at a workshop hosted by the Nome Coordinated Research Consortium (NCRC). The workshop aimed to discuss the present and future of Nome, considering transport infrastructure (such as the projected deep-draft port), mining, tourism, and climate change.
The NCRC, led by Jim Powell from the University of Alaska Southeast, comprises social and natural scientists from various universities and projects conducting research in Northwest Alaska and the Bering Strait region. The event also featured presentations by Bella Block (University of Alaska Anchorage), Michele Remer (Michigan State University), Laura Landrum (US National Center for Atmospheric Research), Julio Postigo (Indiana University), Jim Powell (University of Alaska Southeast), and Bob Orttung (George Washington University).
